Avivah Polmer
Linguistic and Dyslexia Specialist
My students, past and present
Tutoring has really helped me become the person I am today. It has really helped me accept my dyslexia. I have also learned that having dyslexia is a gift and not a curse. So I think that Avivah and tutoring has helped me become far more confidant in my own abilities, and I have also grown as a reader and writer. (Rose)
Avivah connected with our son on a meaningful level, making learning fun and possible. We truly feel she has been instrumental in his educational success; guiding him with dignity, creativity, nurture, and patience. (Garrett's parents)
I remember I hated writing when I was in elementary school. I always had crazy stories and ideas in my head but I could never get the words to cooperate. However, once I started going to Avivah, I learned how to control the words. They no longer were scary entities that caused Fs on spelling tests. Avivah helped me understand how words can be used to create beautiful things and are nothing to fear. (Paige)
Avivah has a very thorough and well-trained approach to dyslexia remediation and a personal rapport that children engage with easily. She is an excellent advocate for our daughter on many levels and has a fundamental love for children and watching them flourish, both academically and emotionally. (P. C.'s mom)
Avivah guided us through the education process for students identified with a disability and today, Connor is completing a graduate degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Rochester in NY. (Connor's mom)
My time with Miss Avivah was truly invaluable as she helped me become a better reader, writer, and student of the English language. She not only taught me about words and their structure but made it enjoyable the entire time. Without her assistance, my comprehension of grammar, spelling, and other English related topics would be severely lacking. I am truly thankful for all the time I spent working with Miss Avivah and would recommend her to anyone struggling with English. (Matthew)
Tutoring with Avivah has helped me in more ways than I could have imagined. She has helped me with my struggles in school and has always been there for me when I needed her. She always went the extra mile in making sure that I fully understood what we were doing. She is an expert in what she does and has helped me become the student I am today. I am now in college, and working with Avivah has helped me better prepare for success in college. (Brian)
Working with Avivah gave me a sense of belonging; without her I wouldn’t be as confident in the classroom as I am today. I don’t even think I would be where I am today without the support she has given me. Not only through school work but just building my confidence up in knowing that I am no different because I have learning disabilities. (Elizabeth Bartold)
